The oldest section of the Archaeological Museum of Argos consists of the “Kallergeio”. It is a declared neoclassical Kapodistrian building that was constructed in 1830, in order to house the family of General Dimitris Kallergis.
For a time it was used as the “Palace of Government” by Kapodistrias.
In April 1932 the heirs of Dimitris Kallergis donated the estate and the surrounding yard to the Municipality of Argos, in order to house the museum. The Municipality of Argos gave the estate and the adjacent plot of land to the state in 1955 for this purpose.
